Sources & Standards

This page explains how Media Grid UK gathers, verifies and presents the news you read — the sources we rely on, the ethical standards we follow and the steps we take to ensure every story is accurate and fair. It also tells you who owns and operates this publication, so you can judge our independence for yourself.

Who owns and operates Media Grid UK?

Media Grid UK is an independent digital news publisher owned and operated by Sliema Media Limited, a company registered in Malta (Malta Business Registry number C 84217, registered office: Level 3, Tower Business Centre, Tower Street, Swatar, Birkirkara BKR 4013, Malta). The Editor‑in‑Chief, Jonathan Pierce (jonathan.pierce@mediagriduk.uk, +44 20 4587 9486), has final responsibility for all editorial standards, publication decisions and corrections.

Our editorial independence is guaranteed by a formal charter that separates commercial interests from news decisions. The newsroom is led by Managing Editor Rebecca Haines, who oversees daily output, headline review and commissioning. All editorial staff are named on our team page. Commercial relationships — including advertising, affiliate links and sponsored content — never determine editorial conclusions.

Where do we get our sources?

We rely on authoritative, publicly accessible primary sources for factual information, statistics and official records. Every article cites these sources where relevant, and our fact‑checking team verifies each claim against the original material before publication.

  • BBC News — trusted breaking news and in‑depth reporting from the UK’s public‑service broadcaster.
  • Office for National Statistics — the UK’s official statistics producer, covering population, economy, labour market and society.
  • UK Parliament — official records of parliamentary proceedings, legislation, committee reports and debates.
  • Bank of England — monetary policy decisions, financial stability reports and economic data from the UK’s central bank.
  • Companies House — official register of UK companies, directors, accounts and corporate filings.

We also draw on government departments, public inquiries, peer‑reviewed academic journals, recognised think‑tanks and, where appropriate, original documents obtained through freedom‑of‑information requests. Our full sourcing methodology is detailed in our fact‑checking policy.

Which regulatory and standards bodies do we follow?

Media Grid UK adheres to the Editors’ Code of Practice administered by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), the UK’s leading independent regulator of print and digital news. We also comply with data‑protection requirements set by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and with advertising and sponsorship rules enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

  • IPSO — sets and enforces the Editors’ Code of Practice on accuracy, privacy, harassment and other ethical matters.
  • ICO — regulates the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and privacy‑related obligations.
  • Advertising Standards Authority — ensures advertising, sponsored content and affiliate links are legal, decent, honest and truthful.

We are not a member of any other press regulator. Our editorial policies — including our editorial policy, corrections policy and complaints procedure — are published for public scrutiny.

What do we rely on day to day?

Our reporters, editors and fact‑checkers use a combination of original reporting, official databases, wire services, press releases and direct access to decision‑makers. We also use AI‑assisted tools for research, transcription, formatting and headline options, but every piece is approved by a human editor before publication.

Daily newsroom routines include checking government statistics releases, monitoring parliamentary proceedings, reviewing trade publications, and maintaining direct contacts with experts, officials and sources. All sources are recorded in our internal editorial system, and any claim that cannot be independently verified is flagged and removed unless the source can be disclosed to the editor. Our AI and automation policy explains the boundaries of automated tools in the newsroom.

How can you challenge our reporting?

If you believe we have made an error, we want to correct it promptly. You can contact our Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead, Oliver Reeves, at oliver.reeves@mediagriduk.uk or by phone on +44 20 4587 9491. For formal complaints, please use the procedure set out in our complaints procedure.

All complaints are acknowledged within two working days. If the issue concerns a factual inaccuracy, we will investigate, consult original sources and, if necessary, publish a correction or clarification with equal prominence to the original article. Our corrections policy describes the timeline and format of corrections. For complaints that cannot be resolved internally, we offer escalation to IPSO under the Editors’ Code.

Our commitments

  • Every article is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor and fact‑checked before publication.
  • We clearly label sponsored content, affiliate links and any material influenced by commercial partnerships.
  • AI‑assisted tools never replace human editorial judgement; no story is published without a human editor’s final approval.
  • We correct errors promptly and with equal prominence, and we publish a transparent record of corrections.
  • We are accountable to IPSO and invite readers to contact us directly if they have concerns about our reporting.
