Privacy Policy

Media Grid UK (mediagriduk.uk) is owned and operated by Sliema Media Limited, a company registered in Malta (company number C 84217, registered office: Level 3, Tower Business Centre, Tower Street, Swatar, Birkirkara BKR 4013, Malta). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal data when you visit our website or interact with us. It applies to all readers, subscribers, tipsters and anyone else who contacts us, and it is designed to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who is responsible for your data?

Sliema Media Limited is the data controller for all personal data collected via Media Grid UK. That means we decide how and why your data is used, and we are legally accountable for protecting it. If you have any questions about this policy, you can contact our data protection point of contact at privacy@mediagriduk.uk or write to us at our registered office in Malta. For UK readers, we also accept correspondence at our UK editorial line: +44 20 4587 9485.

What personal data do we collect?

We collect personal data that you provide voluntarily, such as your name and email address when you sign up for our newsletter, submit a tip via our Tip Us page, contact our team through Contact forms, or respond to a survey. We also automatically collect technical data including your IP address, browser type, operating system, and browsing behaviour on mediagriduk.uk through cookies and similar technologies. This technical data is anonymised where possible and used for analytics and site improvement.

How do we use your data and what is our lawful basis?

We use your personal data for these purposes: to send you the newsletter you requested (lawful basis: consent), to process and respond to your tips, complaints or enquiries (legitimate interest), to analyse site traffic and improve our content (legitimate interest), to comply with legal obligations such as verifying submissions under our Editorial Policy, and to display relevant advertising (legitimate interest or consent where required). We never use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects. For any processing based on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing privacy@mediagriduk.uk.

How long do we keep your data?

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected. For newsletter subscribers, we keep your email and name until you unsubscribe, after which we delete them within 30 days. For tip submissions and complaints, we retain records for two years after the matter is closed, to comply with records-keeping obligations under our Complaints Procedure. Technical data from analytics is stored for no more than 26 months. After these periods, data is securely deleted or anonymised.

Do we share your data?

We never sell your personal data. We share data only with trusted third-party service providers who process data on our behalf, such as email marketing platforms, analytics providers, and hosting services. All such processors are contractually bound to comply with UK GDPR and may not use your data for any purpose other than the service they provide to us. We may also disclose data if required by law, such as to comply with a court order or legal request from a UK authority. In the event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred to the new entity under the same privacy commitments.

What are your rights under UK GDPR?

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to ask us to rectify inaccurate data, to request erasure of your data in certain circumstances, to restrict processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (including direct marketing). These rights are not absolute and may be subject to exemptions. We will respond to all valid requests within one month.

How can you exercise your rights?

To exercise any of your data protection rights, please email our data privacy team at privacy@mediagriduk.uk. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request. If you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection. You can contact the ICO at https://ico.org.uk/ or via their helpline. We encourage you to contact us first so we can resolve any concerns directly.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience, analyse traffic, and deliver relevant advertising. You can manage your cookie preferences through our cookie consent tool. For full details, please read our separate Cookie Policy. This policy works alongside the Cookie Policy, which explains the types of cookies we use and your choices.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on mediagriduk.uk or by email if you have subscribed to our newsletter. The current version was last updated in March 2025. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
